My sunbeam flower pot!

My sunbeam flower pot!

 🌅
Not exactly the first I started, but it was the first of my fully finished pots. It's the one that sat out proudly and motivated me into (keep) working. I was nervous about doing a sunflower-type arrangement considering I don't paint sunflowers often, buut I had to suck it up and learn (eventually right?) considering sunflowers are a personal favorite of mine. It was only inevitable, so why not just do it?
It's all fun and games until I I hit the exciting yet stressful part of color scheming. Too many options - how could I ever decide? I saw the base color mixed before and I thought about it so often but never used it. Of all the color mixing videos I binge watch, this one still stands out to me for its tone that mimicks that dusky pink color that pops up during sunsets. Perfect pair for some sunflowers. I used a basic student grade light magenta shade (which is good for mixing with my more pricy kinds of paint) and I mixed it with a yellow oxide thick body professional grade acrylic to make it into a rusty magenta shade (thick body acrylic is the more pricy kind of paint but I love the finish it does), as well as a touch of a primary red hue to darken the magenta, and a touch of cadmium orange to give it some glow. The sunflowers are painted with thick body acrylic (I have trouble so frequently with the transparency of yellow that I got thick bodied shades for all my work). I used yellow oxide and yellow medium, along with some unbleached titanium for the shading, and black for the center for contrast. The rim is just windsor purple on its own, because, honestly, it's an amazing and deep shade without anything else, and I liked the contrast to the magenta. This time I went for a more simple cartoonosh sunflower to pair with the playfulness I set with the rusty hue. I would love to try painting different versions of sunflowers, but this was definitely a fun one to do. Maybe I've been staring at the sunflower paintings on my walls too much
